When Chris Wall passed away, this was discovered in his office, framed. In a strange way, it spoke of our philosophy together and what had happened to our processes now that the clients are dictating terms. Godard made a film, ALPHAVILLE, in the sixties that was a prescient look at what would happen to future societies as computers took over. I rewatched it recently and was taken by the similarities to what has happened to the ad biz in the past decades as corporate think and commodification have taken over. In Godard’s futureworld, society is computer controlled and benign, anti- artist, anti- creativity, anti- anything that could ‘rock the boat,’ just like now.
